Abraham Lincoln

Abraham Lincoln was a simple boy from a simple household that grew up to be one of the most important men in history. Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809 in Kentucky. He had an older sister, Sarah, and a brother, Thomas, whom had passed away. When Abraham was seven, his family moved to Indiana where he briefly attended school. Despite his lack of formal education, Lincoln managed to learn to read, write, and cipher. In 1818, Abraham's mother died from milk poising, and his father remarried. Abraham loved his new step mother who brought three children into the family as well.
As he grew up, Lincoln much preferred reading over field work which upset his father and caused a strained relationship. In 1828, Lincoln's sister died during childbirth. In 1830 Lincoln moved west to Ilinois. He lived in Salem Illinois and worked many jobs. Being kind to citizens earned him the nickname "Honest Abe" Lincoln. He briefly served in the black hawk war and made an unsucessful run for Illinois legislature in 1832. He ran yet again in 1834, 1836, 1838, and 1840. He won all four times for the Whig party and didn't become a republican until 1856. Lincoln studied law in his spare time and became a lawyer 1836. He met Mary Todd in 1839 and married her three years later. They bought a house in 1844 and had four children.
In 1846 Abraham Lincoln ran for the U.S House of Representatives. Lincoln won and became known for his opposition to slavery. After his term, Lincoln returned home, and his father died in 1851. He continued to study law and his interest in politics decreased majorly. The Kansas- Nebraska Act changed his views. Lincoln made an unsucessful run for U.S senate, but gained support from rebulicans, that won him the rebulican nomination and eventually the presidential election of 1860. Lincoln is best known for leading the Union army to victory in the Civil War and preserving the Union, freeing the slaves with his Emancipation proclaimation, and the Gettysburg address. Unfortunately, on April 14, 1865, Lincoln was assinated by John Wilkes Booth at the Ford's Theater. Abraham Lincoln was one of the best and most influencial presidents the U.S has ever seen.
